SUMMARY: Good morning, I’m K1 meteorologist Chris Ramirez with the latest update on Hurricane Helen, currently a Category 2 hurricane with winds at 105 mph, moving towards Florida. It is expected to strengthen to a Category 3 before making landfall in the Florida Big Bend region tonight or tomorrow morning. Outer bands are already causing torrential rain and tornado warnings, with flooding reported. Storm surge of 15-20 feet is possible along the western Florida coast. Rainfall may reach up to 10 inches in parts of the Southeast, while conditions in Houston will remain cool and dry. The tropics remain active with additional disturbances.

Hurricane Hunters take wild ride into Helene's eye

As Helene was coming ashore on Thursday night, a Hurricane Hunter flight was able to escape the eye of the storm.
