SUMMARY: A bill in Congress, introduced by Congressman Dale Strong, aims to expand nuclear power in the U.S. by calling for the U.S. Department of Energy to construct and demonstrate two small modular reactors by 2034. The proposal includes at least one reactor to be located on or near an operating or retired nuclear reactor site, potentially revitalizing the Bellefonte Nuclear Plant site in Jackson County, Alabama.
