Paul Miliken shares essential supplies to gather, including non-perishable food, water, and medicine for at least three days per family member. He highlights the need for working flashlights, batteries, and a weather radio. Additionally, having cash and important documents, like insurance information and photos of valuables, is crucial. Miliken also advises writing down important phone numbers, as many do not memorize them anymore. A practical tip includes keeping extra socks handy to stay comfortable during power outages. Tracking Hurricane Helene, Georgia impacts | Thursday 5p forecast
SUMMARY: Hurricane Helen is currently a Category 3 storm, anticipated to make landfall on the Florida coast tonight, possibly intensifying to a low-end Category 4. As it moves into Georgia and near Atlanta, it will downgrade to a tropical storm. Heavy rain and tropical storm-force winds (40-60 mph) are expected, contributing to severe flooding risks, especially due to saturated ground conditions. Flash flood warnings are active in affected areas, with additional counties added to the hurricane warning. As the storm passes, conditions should improve by Friday afternoon, with reduced rain and gusty winds lingering through the day.
The National Hurricane Center reported that Helene had strengthened to a Category 3 storm on Thursday.
