Helene to make landfall as major Hurricane in the Florida Big Bend, impacting Alabama, other states
SUMMARY: Hurricane Helene is approaching the Florida coast, expected to make landfall by tomorrow night. Currently a Category 1 hurricane with 85 mph winds, it may strengthen to a Category 2 before hitting land, potentially becoming a Category 4 with winds up to 130 mph. The National Weather Service warns of catastrophic and unsurvivable storm surges, particularly affecting Florida. Alabama will experience some impacts, but Florida will be hit hardest, especially regions like Cedar Key. Typical hurricane patterns suggest increased storm surge due to counterclockwise winds pushing water inland. Residents should prepare for severe weather and potential power outages.
