Breathett County is under a warning until 7 PM for quarter-inch hail and 60 mph winds, with storms moving northeast. Laurel County is also experiencing storms with larger hail. The storms are expected to diminish by late evening as a cold front approaches. Tropical Storm Helen is forecasted to strengthen and impact the southeastern U.S. later this week, bringing potential heavy rainfall. Active weather pattern kicks in to finish out the year

SUMMARY: Temperatures in Central and Eastern Kentucky are remaining above average following a mild Christmas. Light showers began Thursday, with highs in the mid to upper-50s, perfect for holiday returns. Moving into the weekend, an active weather pattern will bring consistent rain, with totals expected between 1″ to 3″ by Sunday, potentially causing minor flooding. Breezy conditions will remain, with temperatures again in the upper 50s. A brief respite is forecast for Monday, but more rain is expected on New Year’s Eve. The beginning of January could see colder air returning, requiring winter coats once more.

Report: Federal agencies spent millions of taxpayer money torturing cats | National

Azerbaijani airliner crashes in Kazakhstan, killing 38 with 29 survivors, officials say

SUMMARY: An Azerbaijani airliner, an Embraer 190, crashed near Aktau, Kazakhstan, on December 25, 2024, killing 38 of the 67 people onboard. The flight, from Baku to Grozny, diverted to Aktau due to worsening weather and a reported bird strike, attempting an emergency landing 3 km from the airport. Among the passengers were Azerbaijani, Russian, Kazakh, and Kyrgyz citizens. Mobile footage showed the plane descending steeply before crashing in flames. Authorities from Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, and Russia are investigating. Azerbaijan’s President Aliyev declared December 26 a day of mourning, and Russia offered assistance.
