Heavy rains, strong winds expected to impact much of Georgia from Helene
SUMMARY: Georgia Emergency Management Agency (GEMA) officials are urging residents to prepare for the impending storm, Helen, which could affect all 159 counties in the state. GEMA director Chris Stallings highlights the potential for heavy rain and falling trees, which can block roads and down power lines. Residents should stay informed through weather alerts, have emergency plans, and prepare kits with essentials like food, water, and first aid supplies. It’s advised to secure outdoor furniture and consider renters insurance. With Georgia under a state of emergency, resources are being mobilized to support affected areas.
Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp declared a state of emergency on Tuesday in anticipation of Tropical Storm Helene, which is expected to become a major hurricane in the Gulf.
