Texas sues over lizard, wins latest round in nearly 10-year battle over warbler | Texas
SUMMARY: Texas has filed a lawsuit against the Biden-Harris administration for classifying the Dunes Sagebrush Lizard as an endangered species, arguing it violates the Endangered Species Act. The state contends that the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) relied on flawed data and ignored successful conservation efforts by ranchers and the oil and gas industry. Attorney General Ken Paxton claims the classification undermines Texas’ economic development and is politically motivated. Additionally, Texas recently won a legal battle over the Golden-Cheeked Warbler designation, which had restricted property use and property values in Central Texas since 1990, reinforcing the need for USFWS to adhere to federal law.

Fort Worth ISD superintendent's contract under review
SUMMARY: The Fort Worth ISD School Board may decide today on Superintendent Dr. Angelica Ramsay’s contract amid community criticism over declining accountability ratings and STAR test results. The district’s scores dropped from a B in 2022 to a C, now trailing behind Dallas ISD by 11 percentage points and Houston ISD by 14. Last week, many community leaders expressed concerns about leadership accountability during a meeting. Ramsay, who has been in her position for two years and earns over $330,000 annually, is seen by some as receiving unfair criticism. The board meeting begins tonight at 5:30 p.m. at the Fort Worth ISD Service Center.
The Fort Worth Independent School District is once again discussing the superintendent’s job. Dr. Angelica Ramsey’s performance is under review as members of the community call for change.

Keeping an eye on 3 executions and the latest developments in those cases
SUMMARY: Three executions are making headlines today. Rodney Reed, on Texas‘ death row for a 1996 rape and murder, is seeking DNA testing from the murder weapon to prove his innocence. While the Supreme Court has allowed him to pursue this, the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals shows resistance, with no clear timeline for a ruling. Tonight, Travis Mullis is set to be executed for the 2008 murder of his three-month-old son, a crime he attributed to the child’s crying. Lastly, Marcelus Williams, convicted in 2001, is scheduled for lethal injection after concerns about racial bias in his trial were dismissed by Missouri’s Supreme Court and governor.
