Former Monroe superintendent received thousands in unapproved allowances | Louisiana
SUMMARY: The Monroe School Board discovered a misappropriation of taxpayer funds involving former superintendent Dr. Brent Vidrine, who submitted falsified documentation for retirement service credits, leading to an extra $20,000 in his contract and unapproved retirement allowances exceeding $141,000 from June 2014 to October 2023. The board has since recovered the misappropriated funds. Additionally, auditors identified mismanagement of student activity funds at four schools, negative balances at ten schools, and a lack of internal controls that resulted in $88,000 in questioned costs across three federal programs. The school’s financial statements were also filed late with the Legislative Auditor’s Office.

Bossier City Council votes against term limits ordinance | Louisiana
SUMMARY: An ordinance proposing term limits for Bossier City Council members was rejected during a recent council meeting, despite strong community support. Over 50% of residents approved the concept in polls, with nearly 3,000 signatures collected on a petition. Councilman Brian Hammons highlighted the high legal fees incurred in opposing term limits and stressed the need for accountability among council members. The ordinance aimed to limit council members to three terms and would have allowed for a public vote in December. In contrast, a motion to reduce city millage rates from 22.58 to 21.50 passed unanimously, ensuring consistent property tax revenue.
