Absentee voting begins in Mississippi ahead of Nov. 5 election
SUMMARY: Mississippi’s circuit clerk’s offices are now accepting in-person and mail-in absentee ballots for the Nov. 5 general election. Residents can visit the secretary of state‘s website for information, FAQs, and guidance on absentee voting. In-person absentee voting is available on Oct. 26 and Nov. 2, with the last day to vote absentee in person on Nov. 2. Mail-in ballots must be postmarked by Election Day. Voters need to be registered by Oct. 7 to participate. For questions, they can email or call designated election contacts.

Officials celebrate more than $110,000 in grants awarded to Mississippi schools

Beloved Mississippi bluesman Sam Mosley dies at 78
SUMMARY:
Sam Mosley, a celebrated Mississippi blues musician, passed away on September 20 at the age of 78 in New Albany. Born in Union County in 1946, he gained fame as part of the duo Sam and Bob & The Soulmen, releasing albums including Mississippi Mud (1971) and Premium (1989). After the death of his partner, Bob Johnson, in 1998, Mosley continued to perform and honor Johnson’s family with royalties. Known for hits like โNever Let You Go,โ he left a significant legacy in blues music and worked in materials management for 34 years. Funeral arrangements are pending.

Feds: Man accused in assassination attempt left note indicating he intended to kill Trump
SUMMARY: Ryan Wesley Routh, accused of an assassination attempt on Donald Trump at a Florida golf course, left a note expressing his intent to kill the former president and provided a list of Trump’s appearances in his car.
