Days away from Marcellus Williams' scheduled execution – Where things stand
SUMMARY: Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey has requested the U.S. Supreme Court to deny a request from death row inmate Marcellus Williams. The motion details Williams’ confession to the murder of former Post-Dispatch reporter Leasha Gayle, where he allegedly threatened to kill his girlfriend and her children. Bailey emphasized that the governor holds the authority to stay an execution. He expressed concern that Supreme Court intervention could obstruct the governor’s clemency powers in the case of the 55-year-old inmate.
Marcellus Williams, a man on death row in the 1998 death of Lisha Gayle, is scheduled to be executed for the murder in just a few days without intervention.
