Battle of Arkansas' Issue 2 on casino licensing
SUMMARY: Issue Two aims to give local voters the power to approve or deny casino projects in their communities, influenced by ads from Local Voters in Charge. This measure arises from concerns over the establishment of a casino in Pope County, despite previous local opposition. Proponents argue that local communities should dictate their development, while opponents, including local officials, argue that the casino would bring significant economic benefits, such as job creation and tax revenue. Critics claim that the initiative is funded by external interests aiming to eliminate competition. The Arkansas Supreme Court is currently reviewing the legality of the petition process used for Issue Two.
In November 2024, Arkansans could vote on Issue 2, which would repeal the Pope County casino license and require local elections.
