SUMMARY: Fort Worth officer William Martin, known for a controversial disciplinary record, has been charged with aggravated assault in an off-duty shooting incident where he pursued a driver a minor collision. On September 3, Martin alleged that a red Ford F150 struck his car and fled. After chasing the driver, he claimed shots were fired, injuring unarmed Samuel Christopher. Martin, a 19-year veteran involved in a high-profile 2016 case of excessive force, has been placed on detached duty. Following the incident, he turned himself in with an attorney, and his bond amount remains unclear.

Fort Worth police say Martin did a “jail walkthrough” on Friday, meaning he walked in with his attorney to turn himself in, was fingerprinted, posted bond and walked out. He did not spend any time detained.
