Superintendent of Great Smoky Mountains National Park for nearly a decade is stepping down
SUMMARY: After nearly a decade, Cassius Cash is leaving his role as superintendent of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, a position he has held since 2015. Under his leadership, the park experienced increased visitor numbers, faced significant challenges such as devastating fires, and introduced innovative projects like the Forever Places initiative to preserve park history. Cash, the first Black superintendent of the Smokies, is recognized as a dedicated advocate for the park. He will transition to the Yosemite Conservancy in California, collaborating with a team akin to Friends of the Smokies.
Cassius Cash has been superintendent of the Smokies since 2015. Over those years, the park saw growth in visitors, hardship with devastating fires and new ideas.

Nephew suspected in case of missing 73-year-old man, MPD says
SUMMARY: A 73-year-old Memphis man, Samuel Finny, has been missing for nearly two months, and police have named 36-year-old Christopher Collins, his nephew, as a suspect. Finny, who lived in a house in south Memphis, had been reported missing since August 1. His daughter, Carla Jackson, claims Collins wanted Finny to sell the home for financial gain. Nine days after Finny’s disappearance, his bank card was reportedly used by Collins. The situation escalated with a fire at the home, heightening the family‘s concerns. Collins remains a suspect, but no arrests have been made yet.
Police named a suspect, Wednesday, in the case of a 73-year-old south Memphis man who they said has been missing for nearly two months. “THIS IS NOT A GAME” – MSCS Superintendent addresses threats that caused district-wide lockdowns
SUMMARY: In the past month, several threats have emerged in schools across the Mid-South, prompting a response from various officials, including law enforcement and school district leaders. After a specific threat was called in at Southwind High School, all schools underwent a soft lockdown. Three students from Whitehaven were detained, though not connected to the initial threat. The superintendent assured parents that all communication was timely and that it’s safe for students to return to school. There is ongoing concern about potential copycat threats, and discussions are taking place to enhance safety measures moving forward.

Great Smoky Mountains superintendent Cassius Cash stepping down
SUMMARY: Cassius Cash, the longtime Superintendent of Great Smoky Mountains National Park, is leaving after over 10 years to become president and CEO of the Yosim Conservancy. He is the park’s 16th superintendent and its first Black leader. Cash oversaw significant events, including the 2016 wildfires, the completion of the missing link on the Foothills Parkway, and challenges presented by the pandemic. He also implemented parking fees for visitors. More on Cash’s contributions to the park will be featured on 10 News at 5.
Cash became the superintendent of the Great Smoky Mountains in February 2015. He’ll lead the Yosemite Conservancy in California.
