Nephew suspected in case of missing 73-year-old man, MPD says

SUMMARY: A 73-year-old Memphis man, Samuel Finny, has been missing for nearly two months, and police have named 36-year-old Christopher Collins, his nephew, as a suspect. Finny, who lived in a house in south Memphis, had been reported missing since August 1. His daughter, Carla Jackson, claims Collins wanted Finny to sell the home for financial gain. Nine days after Finny’s disappearance, his bank card was reportedly used by Collins. The situation escalated with a fire at the home, heightening the family’s concerns. Collins remains a suspect, but no arrests have been made yet.

Police named a suspect, Wednesday, in the case of a 73-year-old south Memphis man who they said has been missing for nearly two months. Suspect dead, 2 injured following shooting at Livingston plant

SUMMARY: A violent incident in Livingston ended with a gunman dead following a police chase that began with him shooting two people at a local plant. Multiple law enforcement agencies, including the TBI and the Overton County Sheriff’s Office, responded early in the morning. The gunman fled, leading police on a chase over 50 miles before a standoff on I-40 ended with him found dead in his vehicle. The Livingston Police Chief expressed concern for the community, stating that such violence is rare in their close-knit town. The investigation has been handed over to the TBI. The victims are in stable condition.

The gunman fled the shooting scene and officers pursued the suspect’s vehicle to Interstate 40 in Roane County where a standoff situation began. The Tennessee Highway Patrol reported troopers found the suspect dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound in the vehicle. No troopers fired any weapons.

Tennesseans prefer automobiles over planes and trains when traveling | Tennessee

SUMMARY: During the holiday season, nearly 2.58 million Tennesseans are expected to travel by car, approaching the 2019 record. To ease travel, the Tennessee Department of Transportation will suspend all construction from 11:59 p.m. Monday through 11:59 p.m. Jan. 1, though some safety-related road closures will remain. Gas prices have slightly increased to $2.72 per gallon, compared to $2.65 last week, but are lower than last year’s price of $2.76. Memphis International Airport anticipates 105,000 travelers between Dec. 19 and Jan. 2, with the busiest day being Friday, when 8,200 passengers will pass through TSA checkpoints.
