Trump administration halts funding for two cybersecurity efforts, including one for elections
SUMMARY: The Trump administration has discontinued $10 million in annual federal funding for two cybersecurity initiatives, including one supporting state and local election officials. The decision by the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) raises concerns about the security of U.S. elections amid cuts to programs that had previously countered foreign interference. CISA is reviewing its election-related work, and several staff members have been placed on administrative leave. Experts have voiced alarm over the potential risks posed to election security, emphasizing the vital support previously provided by the now-defunded initiatives, which facilitated crucial information sharing during threats.
