Tuesday's lunar eclipse, supermoon: Viewing in the Midwest
SUMMARY: Meteorologist William Morrison highlights an extraordinary celestial event happening tomorrow night: a rare combination of a Harvest Moon, a supermoon, and a partial lunar eclipse. The Harvest Moon is the full moon closest to the autumnal equinox, historically associated with farmers gathering crops at night. A supermoon occurs when a full moon coincides with the moon’s closest orbit to Earth, occurring three to four times annually. A partial lunar eclipse results from an imperfect alignment of the sun, Earth, and moon, casting a shadow on part of the moon. Cloud cover may affect visibility, so stargazers should keep an eye on the conditions.
A lunar eclipse will be visible for people in Arkansas and Oklahoma on Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2024.

Fire officials urge cold weather preparation as temperatures drop
SUMMARY: As colder weather approaches, fire officials report an increase in heating-related fire calls. The Deputy Chief of the Rogers Fire Department emphasizes that one in seven winter fires is caused by heating equipment, particularly space heaters, which should be kept at least three feet away from flammable materials. Homeowners should ensure smoke and carbon monoxide detectors are functional and have a fire extinguisher rated for B and C fires. Local hardware stores are stocked with winter essentials like detectors and fire extinguishers. Preparedness is key to keeping families safe during the winter season.

Sculpture depicts May 26 tornado that forever changed Rogers
SUMMARY: In Rogers, a new sculpture named “Tornado Town” serves as a healing monument for the community after the violent storm on Memorial Day weekend. The sculpture, created from 475 donated trampoline springs, depicts the tornado that struck on May 26. Weighing 200 pounds and built from local damaged property, it took 500 hours to complete. The design features a unique structure to support its display, as it may not have a permanent location yet. Community members hope this artwork will allow them to reflect on the storm’s lasting impact.
