Spotty Storms Continue, Drier End to the Week
SUMMARY: Chief Meteorologist Ed Bloodsworth reports on significant weather events impacting Santa Rosa County, where heavy downpours caused flooding earlier today along Nvar Parkway, leaving some vehicles stalled. Thankfully, water levels are receding now. A water spout was also spotted near Dolphin Island. Currently, some areas are experiencing mixed weather with heavy rain and ominous clouds around the University of South Alabama and along Highway 98, where driving conditions are hazardous. The weather is influenced by a low-pressure system over Louisiana, leading to a 40% chance of isolated storms tomorrow, with temperatures around 85ยฐF. A warm-up is expected by Thursday.
Some spotty storms will stick around through the middle of the week. Some slightly drier air will move into our northern counties, so the best rain chances will run along I-10 and on the coast. Highs will reach the middle 80s.
High pressure will build into the region for the end of the week and the weekend. This will lead to dry conditions and a slight drop in humidity. Morning lows will fall into the middle and upper 60s.

Federal Reserve Cutting Interest Rates | September 18, 2024 | News 19 at 10 p.m.
SUMMARY: A student has been charged with making a terrorist threat. In notable economic news, the Federal Reserve has lowered interest rates by half a percentage point for the first time in four years. This decision could provide financial relief for citizens in North Alabama, although the benefits may take time to materialize. The rate cut aims to sustain economic strength and support progress on inflation, which has dropped from 9.1% in 2022 to 2.5%. Credit card users may experience immediate relief, while mortgage rates are also expected to decrease. The Fed will closely monitor inflation and unemployment in the coming months.
Americans could be finding more money in their pockets following the Federal Reserve’s announcement of lowering interest rates Wednesday.
