Advocates against gun violence host symposium in Lexington
SUMMARY: Reports indicate that Lexington experienced fewer shootings and homicides in 2024 compared to the previous year, but community leaders recognize the need for ongoing efforts. At the Symposium on Youth and Young Adult Gun Violence, participants discussed addressing root causes rather than merely treating symptoms. The focus was on understanding the social issues contributing to gun violence, such as lack of housing, food security, and employment. Approximately 100 community members, including leaders from various organizations, collaborated to share resources and strategies. The collective effort aims to create sustainable change to combat gun violence effectively.
For the second year, One Lexington hosted the Symposium on youth and young adult gun violence, with this year’s theme “addressing the sickness, not the symptoms.”
