Hurricane Francine: Storm weakens but leaves behind destruction in Louisiana | FOX 7 Austin
SUMMARY: Linemen have gathered in Southeastern Louisiana to restore power after Hurricane Francine, which made landfall as a Category 2 storm, causing significant damage. Mandy Taylor’s family barn, built by her father, was crushed by a falling tree due to winds nearing 100 mph. With over half a foot of rain, the saturated ground increased the risk of uprooted trees. As residents begin cleanup, nearly half a million customers are without power. Experts advise contacting insurance companies first and being wary of scams from out-of-state restoration firms promising quick fixes. Francine is the third hurricane to impact the U.S. this year.

Texas teacher accused of breaking child's fingers was arrested | FOX 7 Austin
SUMMARY: McKenzie Merill, a teacher from Fluger ISD, faces a first-degree felony charge for allegedly breaking the fingers of a 5-year-old autistic boy. Surveillance footage showed Merill holding the child’s hand, and after the boy returned home acting strangely, a doctor confirmed fractures in his ring and little fingers. Merill claimed she used pressure as a de-escalation technique and did not recall the child’s injury, later asserting self-defense, which the boy’s parents found outrageous. Following the incident, Merill was placed on administrative leave and is no longer employed by the district, which is also reviewing disciplinary actions for another employee.
