Potential for Eyewall of Hurricane Francine to Hit New Orleans
SUMMARY: Hurricane Francine is approaching the Gulf Coast, potentially impacting New Orleans directly with heavy rains and strong winds. As the storm nears, the city is already experiencing intense rainfall, leading to concerns about flooding. New Orleans has a functioning pump system with 90 out of 99 pumps operational, capable of handling about an inch of rain per hour. If the rain exceeds this rate, street flooding may occur. Importantly, the pump system can generate its own power, ensuring continued operation even if the electricity goes out. Reports from The Weather Channel’s Justin Michaels provide ongoing updates.

Mental health professionals testify in Carly Gregg trial
SUMMARY: During the ongoing trial of Carly Gregg, a Rankin County teen charged with her mother’s murder and shooting her stepfather, multiple mental health experts testified about her mental state. They collectively determined that Gregg was competent to stand trial but not definitively mentally insane under Mississippi law. Dr. Amanda Gugiliano, a forensic evaluator, found her competent but couldn’t assess her sanity, while psychiatrist Dr. Jason Pickett suggested her mental state did not meet legal standards. He noted concerns about her attorney potentially guiding her responses for gain and described her journal entries as “theatrical.” The defense’s motion to drop charges was denied.
