Tropical Storm Francine pushes into Mississippi: What to expect

SUMMARY: Heavy rainfall is causing flooding in and Mississippi as Tropical Storm Francine approaches. Rainfall totals in the region, especially from Houma to Covington, may reach up to nine inches. The worst weather is currently affecting the Pine Belt, Hattiesburg and southern Rankin County. Winds are beginning to pick up in southern Mississippi, and tropical storm warnings are in effect for coastal in Louisiana and Alabama. Although severe weather is possible, dry is limiting the threats. Francine is expected to move towards Jackson around 7 a.m. , with improving conditions anticipated in the afternoon.

Francine has weakened to a tropical storm as it churns northward to Mississippi. The storm made landfall as a Category 2 hurricane around at 5 p.m. Wednesday in Terrebonne Parish, Louisiana, about 30 miles southwest of Morgan .

Hub City Special Olympics returns to PCS campus

Federal funding to help Lamar, Perry counties bolster law enforcement staffs
