Tropical Storm Warning and Hurricane Watch as Hurricane Francine Approaches New Orleans
SUMMARY: This morning, New Orleans is under a tropical storm warning and a hurricane watch due to Hurricane Francine. Currently, there is no rain, but heavy rainfall is expected this afternoon and evening, potentially bringing 3 to 8 inches of rain along with hurricane-force wind gusts. Fortunately, the storm’s center is forecasted to remain west of the city. However, there is an enhanced risk of tornadoes across New Orleans, much of Southeast Louisiana, and parts of Coastal Mississippi and Alabama, typical of landfalling tropical storms or hurricanes in the region.

Weekend Preview – Sept. 19, 2024
SUMMARY: This weekend marks the return of two beloved events in the Pine Belt: “Live at 5″ in Hattiesburg, featuring live music and family-friendly activities, and “Wind Down Downtown” in Laurel, a wine tasting and shopping event. Hattiesburg will also host a Hispanic Festival, offering free health screenings and entertainment, while Mississippi Songwriters Festival kicks off in Ocean Springs. Additionally, an Art Talk at the Lauren Rogers Museum and a Hummingbird Festival in Moss Point will showcase local talent. The weather is expected to remain hot and muggy, with no rain forecasted through the weekend.

Tupelo's Braylen Williams ruled ineligible to compete in the 2024-2025 academic year
SUMMARY: Brillan Williams, a football player from Tupelo High School, has been ruled ineligible by the MHSAA for the 2024-2025 school year after transferring from Nettleton High School. The MHSAA determined that Williams’ move was not a bona fide transfer, stating it was purely for athletic reasons and occurred outside the transfer window. Tupelo High made a case for his eligibility since summer, but their efforts were unsuccessful. Williams had previously played as a quarterback at Nettleton High for two years.
Tupelo football player Braylen Williams was ruled ineligible to compete in all athletics in the 2024-2025 academic year.

MUW partners with hospital for new nursing program
SUMMARY: The Mississippi University for Women (MUW) has launched a new initiative to address the nursing shortage by partnering with Baptist Memorial Hospital Golden Triangle. This program allows Registered Nursing students to work alongside professionals, becoming student nurse residents. Associate nursing students at MUW will earn clinical credit while receiving training under the mentorship of a clinical coach. Two students from the existing nurse extern program will be selected for this new opportunity, enhancing their practical experience and preparing them for future nursing roles.
The Mississippi University for Women is partnering with the Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle for a new nursing program.
