SUMMARY: Hurricane Francine is gradually increasing speed, currently off the coastline with maximum winds of 90 mph. Wind shear may limit its intensification, potentially keeping it at Category 1 until landfall. Heavy downpours are beginning along the coast from Pascagoula to Houma, with wind gusts of 25 to 70 mph recorded. Rain is expected to increase throughout the day, particularly in central Mississippi. The storm’s center will likely impact the state around midnight, bringing gusts up to 50 mph during the morning commute. A total rainfall of 3 to 6 inches is expected, with isolated areas receiving up to 10 inches, raising concerns for power outages.
