Impacts from tropical system expected this week
SUMMARY: A developing system in the Gulf of Mexico is expected to strengthen into a hurricane, making landfall in south Louisiana by late Wednesday. While today and tomorrow will bring relatively calm weather with some showers, the main impacts are expected Wednesday evening. The current track shows the hurricane approaching near Lafayette, potentially as a Category 1 storm, but preparations should account for higher intensity. Winds could reach 90-100 mph near the coast, with rainfall totals around 2-4 inches on average. Storm surge may reach up to 7 feet in some areas. Stay tuned for updates as the situation evolves.
All eyes are on the developing tropical system in the southern Gulf. We will likely have a name Monday as it slowly begins to organize.

Lawmakers wrap special session, send tax reform bills to Landy’s desk | Louisiana
SUMMARY: The Louisiana Legislature has approved a significant tax package that revamps the state’s tax system, introducing major income tax cuts alongside higher sales taxes and the elimination of numerous tax breaks to balance the budget. Key changes include reducing income tax by $1.3 billion per year and raising sales tax from 4.45% to 5%, effective January 2025. The corporate tax rate will also drop from 7.5% to 5.5%. While Democrats raised concerns about shifting tax burdens, proponents argue these reforms will enhance Louisiana’s economic appeal. The package now awaits Governor Landry’s approval, with promises to ensure funding for key infrastructure projects.
