Tracking Potential Tropical Cyclone Six: Latest Track and Impacts (Sunday 4pm)

SUMMARY: Meteorologist Grant Skinner reports on potential Tropical Cyclone 6, which was designated by the National Hurricane Center for issuing advisories. With max winds at 50 mph and moving northwest at 5 mph, it’s expected to strengthen into a Category 1 hurricane by Wednesday before impacting far eastern Texas and the Louisiana coastline. While the News 5 viewing area is not in the direct cone, it may still experience gusty winds, rough surf, and increased rain chances. Anticipate significant rainfall along the coast, with models predicting up to 5 inches. Other systems in the Atlantic are being monitored but currently pose no threat.

Meteorologist Grant Skinner gives an update on the tropical activity in the Atlantic Basin. The News 5 First Alert Storm Team is tracking Potential Tropical Cyclone Six and two other areas. PTC Six is moving northwest at 5 mph and has 50 mph winds. The current model guidance keeps this system in the westernmost portions of the Gulf tracking it towards TX/LA. Tropical moisture will be drawn into the News 5 area bringing higher rain chances for Wednesday and Thursday. The next name is Francine. Two more areas are in the central and eastern Atlantic and do not pose a threat to the News 5 area. The area in the central Atlantic has a high chance of formation over the next seven days, and the area in the eastern Atlantic also has a medium chance of development.
