These handmade crosses were left by volunteers to honor the Apalachee High School victims
SUMMARY: This weekend, volunteers Tom Sandler and Greg Bestie traveled from South Carolina to Winder to support the community after a tragedy at Appalachia High School. They created four handmade crosses, each symbolizing a victim, which became canvases for messages of support from the public. The heartfelt responses highlight the community’s grief and solidarity. Fundraisers for the victims’ families have raised substantial amounts, including over $992,000 for Christina Aramy, who devoted herself to education. To assist the survivors and families, individuals can text “appalache” to 44885 for more information.
On the Saturday after four people lost their lives inside Apalachee High, Greg Beste was supposed to be celebrating his granddaughter’s second birthday.

FBI says driver in New Orleans rampage acted alone, was '100%' inspired by Islamic State group
SUMMARY: The FBI confirmed that Shamsud-Din Jabbar, a U.S. Army veteran, acted alone when he drove a truck into a New Orleans crowd on New Year’s, inspired by the Islamic State. Jabbar, who posted five ominous videos on Facebook before the attack, was responsible for killing 14 people before being shot dead by police. The assault, the deadliest IS-related attack in the U.S. in years, exposed a rising terrorism threat. Authorities found Jabbar’s Islamic State flag in his truck and characterized the incident as premeditated terrorism. Investigators are examining his radicalization path while community recovery efforts progress.
