Depression likely to form in the western Gulf of Mexico: Saturday 7p Update
SUMMARY: Meteorologist Alis Grant Skinner reports on three tropical systems in the Atlantic as of September 7th. The primary focus is on a developing system in the southwestern Gulf of Mexico with a high chance of intensification, expected to move north-northwest towards Texas and Louisiana, where impacts will be most significant. The Gulf Coast states, including Alabama, Mississippi, and Northwest Florida, may experience increased rain chances later in the week as moisture from the system approaches. Additionally, two more systems are monitored in the Central and Eastern Atlantic, though they are currently far from the Gulf Coast. For updates, visit wkrg.com.
Meteorologist Grant Skinner gives an update on the tropical activity in the Atlantic Basin. The News 5 First Alert Storm Team is tracking three areas. One is expected to move into the Bay of Campeche and has a high chance of development over the next week. It will interact with the frontal boundary in the Gulf, and it could become a depression next week. The current model guidance keeps this system in the westernmost portions of the Gulf tracking it towards TX/LA. Tropical moisture will be drawn into the News 5 area. The next name is Francine. Two more areas are in the central and eastern Atlantic and do not pose a threat to the News 5 area. The area in the central Atlantic has a medium chance of formation over the next seven days, and the area in the eastern Atlantic also has a medium chance of development.
