SUMMARY: Governor Kay has requested the resignation of Can’t Davis, the Commissioner of the Department of Affairs, due to mishandling COVID relief funds and other issues. This follows Davis’s public commitment to work collaboratively on reducing veteran suicides. Political analyst Steve Flowers suggests the abruptness of the termination deeper issues with Davis’s ability to collaborate with other department heads. Davis has not yet commented on the situation. State Senator Andrew Jones supports the governor’s decision, emphasizing a focus on serving Alabama’s veterans and expressing readiness to work with Davis’s successor.

Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey has called for the resignation of the head of the state’s veterans affairs department over what she alleged as mishandling grant money and not keeping her office in the loop with the ongoing business of the department.
