Beneficial Rain on the Way, Drier for the Weekend
SUMMARY: Ed Bloodsworth reports that Coastal Louisiana has faced significant flooding with rainfall estimates of 6 to 8 inches in the past 24 hours. While our region has seen limited rain, scattered sprinkles are developing, and thunderstorms are about 20 miles off Dolphin Island. A noticeable low-pressure system in the Gulf of Mexico could potentially develop into a tropical depression. The forecast predicts cloudy skies overnight with a low of 71ยฐF and an 80% chance of rain tomorrow, with high temperatures reaching 78ยฐF. Expect ongoing shower and thunderstorm chances, but severe weather is not anticipated, with improving conditions by the weekend.
Clouds have blanketed the Gulf Coast. Rain chances will continue to climb through tonight into Friday as moisture continues to move into the region.
A stalled front remains in place just off our coastline. Deepening tropical moisture will lead to higher chances for showers and storms tonight. Your overnight lows will fall into the lower 70s under cloudy skies.
Friday is shaping up wet and gloomy. Scattered showers and storms appear likely. No severe weather is expected. Highs will only manage to reach the upper 70s and lower 80s. Some rain will linger into Friday afternoon and evening for high school football games.
Weekend showers will tend to favor coastal areas, but there will be more sun. Highs will reach the low to mid 80s with morning lows dropping into the middle 60s. Moisture levels will rise again next week.

Federal Reserve Cutting Interest Rates | September 18, 2024 | News 19 at 10 p.m.
SUMMARY: A student has been charged with making a terrorist threat. In notable economic news, the Federal Reserve has lowered interest rates by half a percentage point for the first time in four years. This decision could provide financial relief for citizens in North Alabama, although the benefits may take time to materialize. The rate cut aims to sustain economic strength and support progress on inflation, which has dropped from 9.1% in 2022 to 2.5%. Credit card users may experience immediate relief, while mortgage rates are also expected to decrease. The Fed will closely monitor inflation and unemployment in the coming months.
Americans could be finding more money in their pockets following the Federal Reserve’s announcement of lowering interest rates Wednesday.
