Johnny Cash statue leaves Arkansas on its way to U.S. Capitol
SUMMARY: Johnny Cash, the iconic country singer who passed away in 2003, is set to be honored with a statue representing Arkansas in the U.S. Capitol. The statue, which will replace one of the two original statues in the Capitol’s National Sanctuary Hall, acknowledges Cash’s roots in Dyess, Arkansas. This change follows a bill signed by former Governor Asa Hutchinson to update Arkansas’s representations. The statue of Daisy Gaston Bates was unveiled on May 8, while Cash’s statue is scheduled for installation on September 24. Cash’s legacy includes hit songs and a significant presence in film.
The statue will be one of two that represents Arkansas in the U.S. Capitol’s display.

Senate Republicans block bill that guarantees access to IVF
SUMMARY: Senate Democrats attempted to advance a bill to guarantee nationwide access to in vitro fertilization (IVF), but it failed again, with a 51-44 vote falling short of the 60 votes required. Only two Republicans supported the measure, which had previously been blocked in June. Advocates argue that IVF is essential for family-building and reflect on its personal significance for those seeking reproductive health care. Former President Trump has expressed potential support for IVF by advocating for health insurance coverage if he is reelected. Republicans are challenged to reconsider their stance on this pro-family issue.
On Tuesday, Senate Republicans once again voted to block a bill that would guarantee access to in vitro fertilization nationwide.
