Avoiding toll road collection scams
SUMMARY: Toll-related phishing scams are becoming common, where individuals receive unsolicited texts claiming they have outstanding toll balances, directing them to click a link that appears genuine but is fraudulent. Leah Napo from the Better Business Bureau advises caution, especially if the message requests immediate action or sensitive personal information. To verify legitimacy, individuals should contact their toll authority directly. If someone accidentally engages with a scam, they should not click any links and may need to run malware checks on their devices. Reporting such scams to the FBI or Federal Trade Commission is also recommended to help combat these issues.
Leah Napoliello, Vice President of the Better Business Bureau of Greater Houston and South Texas, shares what you need to know to keep your information safe from scammers posing as toll road collection agencies in text messages.

Help for Houston drivers tricked into paying high parking fees
SUMMARY: A KPRC2 investigation reveals that Metropolis, a California-based parking company managing several garages in Houston, faces a proposed class action lawsuit for allegedly overcharging drivers. Complaints have arisen about excessive fees, such as a reported charge of $262 for a $5 parking session. Customers have described this as a “bait and switch” tactic amid a system driven by AI with no human oversight. The lawsuit seeks to stop what is considered an illegal scheme, while Metropolis claims that complaints represent less than 1% of transactions. The situation continues to frustrate drivers who face unexpected charges.
Last August, KPRC 2 exposed numerous complaints about Metropolis, specifically related to a garage on Franklin in downtown Houston. Now, a Houston law firm has filed a lawsuit to stop the company from charging unfair parking fees. According to Alex Brown from The Lanier Law Firm, โWe expect this is happening every day at every one of these centers.โ
