SUMMARY: This Labor Day marked the second day of a significant labor strike in the US, expanding to over 10,000 hotel workers demanding higher wages and the reinstatement of pandemic-related job cuts. Christian Benovitz reported from the picket lines, where housekeepers and hospitality staff from a Hilton hotel in Baltimore joined the movement, emphasizing the need for equitable pay as they are essential to the industry’s success. The protests also surged in San Francisco, with hundreds marching in solidarity.
