Brandon man arrested after standoff in Richland
SUMMARY: Rankin County deputies arrested James Martin, 24, after a standoff in Richland on August 27. Deputies were serving a felony arrest warrant for cyberstalking when Martin barricaded himself in a home on Sundance Circle, threatening to use firearms. The Sheriff’s Office Special Response Team and crisis negotiators were called to the scene, attempting to contact him. He eventually surrendered just before 11:00 a.m. and was taken into custody at the Rankin County Jail. Martin may face additional charges stemming from the standoff.

School bus crash reported in Lowndes County

Pedestrian killed on Medgar Evers Boulevard in Jackson
SUMMARY: A pedestrian was fatally struck by a vehicle in Jackson, Mississippi, on September 18, around 8:00 p.m. The incident occurred in the 3200 block of Medgar Evers Boulevard as the 42-year-old victim attempted to cross the road.
