Mississippians encouraged to use free life insurance policy locator tool to find lost benefits
SUMMARY: Mississippi’s insurance commissioner, Mike Chaney, is urging residents to utilize an online tool for locating lost life insurance policies. In 2023 alone, over 1,600 Mississippians used the National Association of Insurance Commissioners’ tool, recovering more than $46 million in benefits. The service is free and confidential, having assisted more than 4,400 consumers since its launch in November 2016, totaling over $99 million in claims. DOJ awards over $3 million to bolster public safety in Mississippi
SUMMARY: Three Mississippi universities received grants from the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) to enhance public safety. The University of Southern Mississippi was awarded $3 million to improve digital forensics for rural law enforcement. The University of Mississippi Medical Center received $380,000 for upgrades to its security infrastructure, specifically its CCTV system. Copiah-Lincoln Community College secured $20,000 to provide training for law enforcement officers. These grants are part of the DOJ’s 2024 Byrne Discretionary Community Project Grants, aimed at bolstering safety and law enforcement resources in the Southern District of Mississippi.

Southern Miss unveils state-of-the-art golf facility
