Sunday Brunch at its Best
SUMMARY: Breakfast usually isn’t a priority for me, as I prefer a strong cup of coffee. While I appreciate Germany’s mid-morning meal of fresh brotchen, it’s often hard to find quality options. In contrast, Europeans wouldn’t imagine a day without fresh bread. I fondly recall a summer in Italy with my Italian-American girlfriend, enjoying a magical brunch of toasted ciabatta, prosciutto, and poached eggs, creating an unforgettable memory. Though I try to recreate that breakfast, I can’t replicate the experience. Now, I savor Sunday brunches at home, grilling shrimp and cheese on toasted local bread.

Hey Love Bugs: Take Your Love Elsewhere
SUMMARY: The author humorously describes their struggle with love bugs on their back porch, comparing their abundance to flies in a dairy barn. After sweeping, they perform a makeshift study, counting a few piles and calculating that they’ve swept over 1,100 love bugs. These insects have been prevalent in Florida since 1965 and are found along the Gulf Coast. Each female lays around 300 eggs, leading to high populations. Love bugs are known for flying while mating and sticking to people, causing a nuisance. The author anticipates more love bugs to clear, estimating at least 2,370 still lingering.

Pork Chops, Anyone? | Our Mississippi Home
SUMMARY: The author expresses a love for fried pork chops, favoring thin, bone-in cuts for an authentic Southern meal. After discovering thick cuts at Rouses that were unsuitable for frying, they decided to smoke the pork chops using hickory wood from a fallen tree. Properly seasoning the chops with Tony’s and Greek seasoning, they allowed the meat to reach room temperature before grilling. The author relies on touch to gauge doneness rather than a thermometer. Smoked chops pair well with David Chang’s Momofuku ramen and various sides, making them a versatile and delicious option for dinner.
