FIRST ALERT: Keeping an eye on the heat and tropics (08/08/2024)
SUMMARY: Meteorologist Aaron Colby forecasts intense heat for the next few days, with heat advisories in effect until 7 PM due to heat indices approaching or exceeding 110ยฐF. Yesterday’s record high of 100ยฐF at Gulfport Airport is expected to be matched or surpassed today. Temperatures will remain around 100ยฐF, with a slight cooldown into the upper 90s over the weekend. A slow-moving front next week may lower temperatures into the mid-90s but will bring minimal rain. In the tropics, Tropical Storm Debbie is moving through the Carolinas with no immediate threat to South Mississippi. Other tropical waves are being monitored for future development.

Mississippi Aquarium hosting sea turtle release on Thursday
SUMMARY: The Mississippi Aquarium is set to release two Kimberley sea turtles this Thursday at Edgewater Mall in Biloxi. The public is invited to attend the event and witness the turtles’ return to the ocean. The release will take place at Biloxi Beach, starting at 4 PM.

South Mississippians reflect on days after 9/11 attacks
SUMMARY: This weekend, South Mississippi residents participated in a 5K event to honor the First Responders and victims of the 9/11 attacks. The annual Tunnel to Towers event featured a stair climb, commemorating firefighters who lost their lives.
