FIRST ALERT: Record heat possible again tomorrow in South Mississippi (08/07/2024)
SUMMARY: South Mississippi experienced record-breaking heat, with temperatures reaching 100°F at the Gulfport airport, surpassing the previous record of 99°F set in 1972. The Trent Lott airport in Moss Point tied its record of 98°F, first set in 1896. Tomorrow, temperatures are expected to rise into the low 100s, potentially breaking more records. The extreme heat is due to a high-pressure ridge and drier air from Tropical Storm Debby, preventing the sea breeze from cooling the region. The tropical wave in the Caribbean is moving toward Central America, with no immediate development concerns.
WLOX Meteorologist Eric Jeansonne brings the latest updates on record-breaking heat on the Coast and an update in the tropics.
