Southern Miss McNair Scholars Program Announces 2024 Participants

SUMMARY: Twelve undergraduates from the of Southern Mississippi have been selected for the McNair Scholars Program, aimed at supporting from disadvantaged backgrounds who show academic potential. Funded by the U.S. Department of Education, the program prepares these individuals for doctoral studies through research and scholarly activities. Since its inception in 1999, Southern Miss has assisted over 200 scholars. This year’s scholars engage in various research projects, such as exploring mental impacts on academic performance and predicting suicide risk among youth. The program honors Dr. Ronald McNair, a NASA astronaut and advocate for education.

MGCCC celebrates 13 students named 2024 Coca-Cola Leaders of Promise Scholars

SUMMARY: Mississippi Coast Community College has announced that 13 of its have received the prestigious 2024 Coca-Cola of Promise Scholarships from Phi Theta Kappa. This recognition is awarded to new members who excel in academics, leadership, and community service. The scholarship program offers $1,000 to assist with educational expenses. Nationwide, 210 students were selected from nearly 1,500 applicants. Notable scholars from MGCCC include Angela Cothern (biology), Ciara Ano (interior design), and Olivia Greenough (nursing), among others, who hold significant leadership roles within campus and demonstrate strong commitment to their fields and communities.
