Jones County home ravaged by fire Thursday evening
SUMMARY: A house fire in Jones County caused significant damage to a mobile home on Freeman Johnson Road this evening. Multiple volunteer fire departments responded to the scene around 6:00 PM. Fortunately, despite the extensive damage depicted in the images, there were no injuries reported.

More evidence entered at trial from night Lamar County deputy was shot
SUMMARY: The trial of Troy Johnson, accused of shooting Lamar County Sheriff’s Deputy Steve Pazos in December 2022, continued with its second day of testimony. Body cam footage from the incident was shown but not recorded in court. Several witnesses, including an NBI investigator, provided evidence regarding the shooting and the events of that night. Deputy Pazos was shot once in the side but survived. The prosecution has presented its witnesses, and the trial is set to resume tomorrow morning at the Lamar County Courthouse, with uncertainty about whether the defense will present its case.

10/17- A gradual warm up is on the way
SUMMARY: This week, stunning celestial events include Comet A3 visible in the Western sky and the full super hunter moon, brilliantly rising. Current temperatures are in the mid-40s with calm winds, leading into a cold night. Tomorrow morning will be chilly, but afternoon highs are expected in the mid-70s, warming through the weekend to around 80 degrees by Sunday. There’s a significant rainfall deficit in the area, with a moderate drought reported, and no rain expected next week. Additionally, two tropical disturbances are being monitored, but they’re not anticipated to impact the mainland US.

A body has been found in the woods in Jackson
SUMMARY: The Jackson Police Department has identified a body discovered in a wooded area near Forest Avenue and Clay Street as 65-year-old Percy Mixon. Mixon was reported missing on October 2nd.
