Brave Escambia County K-9 hailed hero, receives Smiles Behind the Shield award
SUMMARY: K-9 Streeter, a heroic police dog, gained recognition for his bravery after jumping off a 40-foot bridge to pursue three homicide suspects in Escambia County, following a deadly drive-by shooting. During a chase, Streeter followed one suspect who had fled from a wrecked car on Highway 90, demonstrating unwavering commitment. Despite the dangerous leap, he only suffered minor injuries and has since returned to duty. Streeter received a Courage Medal and is the first K9 awarded the “Smiles Behind the Shield” award. Named after a fallen sheriff’s deputy, his actions honor the legacy of Corporal Eric Streer, bringing pride to the family.
Body camera footage shows the moments three homicide suspects jumped out of a wrecked car on the Highway 90 bridge at Scenic Highway after killing an elderly woman in a drive-by shooting and leading Escambia County sheriff’s deputies on a chase in June.
