ACT ditching science as required section, reducing length of test
SUMMARY: The ACT is undergoing significant changes, with the science section becoming optional while maintaining mandatory English, math, and reading sections. Students can choose to take the ACT with or without science or writing. The test’s length will be reduced by up to one-third, with the core test lasting two hours and featuring shorter passages and fewer questions. Composite scores will still range from 1 to 36. The updates will be implemented in spring 2025 for online testing and in spring 2026 for school-day testing. ACT CEO Janet Godwin expressed excitement about these enhancements aimed at better serving students.
