SUMMARY: NASA Astronaut Jeanette Epps recently participated in a virtual discussion from the International Space Station (ISS), sharing her observations of tropical storms, particularly Hurricane Beryl. Epps emphasized the value of Crew Earth Observations, where astronauts photograph natural disasters for researchers below. She noted witnessing Beryl’s powerful presence as it approached the Caribbean and later made landfall in Texas. Epps also highlighted the current decline in tropical activity due to large Saharan dust plumes affecting storm formation.
