SUMMARY: President Biden announced on Sunday that he is ending his reelection campaign and endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democratic nominee. This decision follows concerns about his fitness for office after a disappointing debate against former President Trump, leading to pressure from fellow Democrats for him to step aside. Biden emphasized his commitment to focus on his presidential duties and praised Harris as the best decision he ever made. While his endorsement is significant, the nomination will be formally decided at the upcoming Democratic Convention. Other potential contenders include several governors and Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg. Reactions to Biden’s decision are ongoing.

President Joe Biden has withdrawn his candidacy for the Democratic presidential nomination. He has also endorsed his vice president, Kamala Harris, to run in his stead.

While the program has enabled significant salary increases and hiring, some sheriffs report that county officials are blocking funds for political reasons. Advocates suggest allowing direct applications from sheriffs for a more effective funding process.
