First Alert Weather Focus – July 17, 2024
SUMMARY: Chief Meteorologist Patrick Biggs covers current weather events on WD7’s Wednesday Weather Focus. The Midwest experienced recent storms, and heavy rain is currently affecting the Laurel area, cooling temperatures. Patrick and Rex highlight the ongoing rain, while temperatures around 70s and 80s are expected. A significant storm system, a “derecho,” hit Illinois, Indiana, and Iowa, causing widespread damage and powerful winds. Northern New York also faced tornado damage. The forecast predicts high rain chances, cooler temperatures, and scattered thunderstorms through the weekend. Despite recent heat advisories, upcoming rain should lower temperatures into the mid-80s. Tropics remain quiet for now.
