Laurel Main Street to apply for revitalization grant for show pavilion
SUMMARY: Laurel is planning to build a new show area for tourists and events in its downtown, known as the Brickyard area. The project involves Laurel Main Street applying for a Mississippi Main Street revitalization grant. The city aims to transform a parking lot on Library Street into this new venue. The funding includes up to $500,000 from the grant, with an additional $125,000 from the city’s tourism fund. The new pavilion and stage will provide a space for events irrespective of weather, increase seating, and offer better accessibility. The city is collaborating with Neil Schaer for the conceptual plan, with final legislative approval expected next summer.
