Forrest County Schools prepare for 2024-25 school year

SUMMARY: Forest County Public School students will return to class next week. Teachers and administrators are preparing to support student success in and out of the classroom. Forest County Elementary School is enhancing group and individual learning methods to meet diverse student needs, offering whole group, small group, and individualized instruction. North Forest High School is focusing on Career and Technical Education programs and dual enrollment with Pearl River Community College, allowing students to earn up to 30 college credits. Despite nationwide teacher shortages, Forest County is striving to hire qualified teachers. Schools are also addressing chronic absenteeism by improving parent communication. Students return on July 23rd.

SUMMARY: The manhunt for 26-year-old Jaccory Carr, an escapee from the Wilkinson County Jail, has officially ended with his capture, announced on social media. Carr, a pre-trial detainee facing charges of murder and aggravated assault, escaped around 7:30 PM last night. Authorities have reached out to Capitol Police for more information but have not yet received a response.

Hub City Special Olympics returns to PCS campus

Town of Sumrall has several public projects under way at same time
