City of Gulfport to receive allocations to help with housing needs
SUMMARY: The US Department of Housing and Urban Development has allocated over a million dollars to the city of Gulfport, aimed at supporting low-income residents. The city will hold a public hearing to gather residents’ opinions on housing and supportive needs. Some residents believe the city isn’t sufficiently addressing issues like damaged homes and flooding. There are concerns over a misconception that Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds are being misallocated. City officials clarify that only authorized low-mod areas receive funds, which amount to around a million dollars annually. They stressed the money’s limitations and do not expect generating additional program income in 2024.
