USM Center for STEM Education Funds Teaching Kits for K-12 Schools
SUMMARY: The University of Southern Mississippi’s Center for STEM Education, through its initiative “STEMontheGo,” is funding the creation of mobile outreach kits to facilitate hands-on STEM learning and research accessibility. With a $1.5 million U.S. Department of Education award, STEMontheGo provides 13 kits to university recipients, supporting a wide range of creative STEM proposals. These kits, such as “Magbag” and “Print the Past,” enable interactive learning through 3D models, immersive activities, and digital humanities. Other kits address geological processes, health and wellness, environmental conservation, the marine carbon cycle, dendrochronology, and optical science. The initiative aims to spark curiosity, improve STEM education, and foster community engagement.
