Man arrested for illegally dumping chicken by-products in Jackson

The Jackson Police Department (JPD) recently arrested 43-year-old Billy Stewart for dumping chicken waste in West Jackson, which caused health issues for residents. After community complaints, the Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ) cleaned the area. Councilman Brian Griselle emphasized the seriousness of the crime and urged for strict prosecution. JPD has also issued an arrest warrant for Jerry Jenkins, accused of dumping wood on Raymond Road. Residents are encouraged to report any information to JPD or Crime Stoppers at 601-355-TIPS.

SUMMARY: Brillan Williams, a football player from Tupelo High School, has been ruled ineligible by the MHSAA for the 2024-2025 school year after transferring from Nettleton High School. The MHSAA determined that Williams’ move was not a bona fide transfer, stating it was purely for athletic reasons and occurred outside the transfer window. Tupelo High made a case for his eligibility since summer, but their efforts were unsuccessful. Williams had previously played as a quarterback at Nettleton High for two years.

MUW partners with hospital for new nursing program

This program allows Registered Nursing students to work alongside professionals, becoming student nurse residents.
