What are the dangers of leaving your vehicle along a highway?
SUMMARY: Abandoned vehicles along highways in Mississippi pose significant safety risks, prompting the Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) to educate and enforce rules for unattended cars. The presence of such vehicles can distract drivers and increase the likelihood of accidents on high-speed roads. The Mississippi Highway Patrol tags vehicles left on the roadside, giving owners five days to remove them before MDOT hauls them away. If a vehicle obstructs the road, it is removed immediately. Owners then have 45 days to reclaim their vehicle before it is auctioned. Safety for drivers remains the top priority for MDOT and law enforcement.
